    My personal view back in the day I was JIB trained I then went on my own 40 years ago and you had to be NICEIC Approved to do council work so I stayed with them then Part P came in ( joke ) I then could not see the point of staying approved as Domestic was all you needed and to this day it's served me well in all types of work I then joined MCS in 2010 which we stayed for 4 years whilst Fit payment installed solar was about.I now believe MCS is pointless as its just a money maker for Niceic Napit so you get inspected twice by them and its only Octopus that has caused issue for solar clients insisting on MCS certificate but they now will except installations if you provide all the details as if in MCS.We prob will go back Approved Niceic as I believe ( as it should be ) Approved will be the only ones that can work on industrial contracts in the future ref walking dogs you need to chill on dog walks 🤣

    D'oh, I'd pretty much made up my mind to go with GivEnergy (but not the all-in-one due to present scalability & cost) but SigEnergy looks very interesting. DC charging module as well. Key point being is cost? Is it comparable with GivEnergy, which I can easily price check with other products. I've not found pricing on SigEnergy SigenStor. Good vid.

    I’d like to see more accountability in the industry & stop people that aren’t registered with NICEIC Napit stroma ect from getting access to work without insurance and doing moon lighting . I’ve noticed several DNO and SSE electricians( they might be skilled in most cases but this is about signing off the work and taking responsibility !)working in rewires when they don’t test and sign off work! This is infuriating for people like myself who do things by the book Register with NICEIC do the paperwork & get the insurance.😬

    Love NAPIT, not a fan of NICEIC because of in our area the current AC assessor is a moody, bad tempered bar-steward led by illusions of grandeur. He has to be reminded every now and then his job is to help members not to be an annual bollard, chain and anchor in everyone's professional life. JIB was fine, then started removing gold cards from older (pre-AMD2) members, moved entry goal posts to make NET some money. Not once in my life was I asked to show JIB card, so dropped them there and then. MCS is a terrible, terrible scheme, focussed only on lofty method statements and bureaucratic procedures rather than quality of work in the field. It needs to be shaken up or removed as it only slows down entire green industry and seems to be doing little else than guarding entire sector in the name of a chosen few giants. HEISS is just unbelievably rogue wench of bankers - I remember when they insisted we hand over chunky deposit (non returnable by their own T&Cs) and sign a warrant not to do more than five jobs a month in order to get provisional membership required for MCS. And who are they to dictate financial future of companies? Unbelievable. The sooner MCS drops third party consumer code requirements the better.

    I had three 3kwh Pylontech batteries installed in my loft, along with solar and Solis 3kw hybrid inverter. Each battery has internal battery management and along with the Solis, should stop the batteries being used past their operating parameters and thus shouldnt cause a fire. I understand that if the house catches fire the batteries could drop into the flames. But at the time I was more concerned that the inverter and electronics were mounted to a wooden board. I had my system installed by Solar Together, so local government approved supplier. Who subcontracts everything out and invariably some cowboys got in. The house is about 100 years old and the loft has good airflow. I have a large detached garage used mainly for storage

    Hi, I have issues with the consumption, import and export numbers reported by the Givenergy portal. I am thinking this is related to CT clamp connections to the connectors in the gateway unit - in my install - load CT appears to be connected (from grid in) but not PV CT or AC CT so suspect this is causing my issue. Any thoughts from your experience on these installs?

    People seem to hate NIC assessments, but I find my assessor has always been sound as a pound. He's been through the same thing, knows the crack and isn't there to catch you out, but if he does find something he'll go out of his way to help and give advice. IET membership is also handy when you get 25% off their publications and even in this last year the money I've saved on the books has paid for the membership itself. I think they're a bit of a punchbag sometimes (and they do know it) but at the end of the day it's still a bunch of fellas just doing their jobs, and with reason.

In reality when things go wrong, for example if a company should cease trading, they are not interested and send you on a merry -go round from one to another. As installers if it ever became a problem we can soon add them. You might want to look into bird guard longevity though. Lots of the systems currently available are not fool proof and are often damaged by rodents and squirrels etc. they are attracted to the plastic options especially. Again we have attended a few roofs with damaged and broken bird guard. It’s a tricky one to solve and I guess a wider reflection on humans building in the places of natural wildlife. First of your videos I’ve watched so maybe I’ve missed something, is your system grid tied, and if so don’t you need mcs accreditation to connect (apart from exporting on octopus trial)? Did you have to go g98 as you’ve already got an inverter in your house presumably so you’re over 3.6kW?

    • @electrician247

      We are MCS approved installers. All G99 approved and complaint 💪. You can have as many generators as you want. Just have to apply for export limit and then use g100 relay if required. But as far as I can tell I’m not allowed to connect anything unless certified (I’d happily put panels and inverter in and get my normal spark to attach the inverter to the CU). Plan at the moment was to just dump all energy from my own panels into a hot water tank (under 50V) to avoid any grid connections (I’m in the process of putting together my own MPTT controller just needs a good bash on the soldering iron)

      Was originally planned for south facing but due to the spacing between rows you have less panels so overall the generation is higher in this configuration. East west splits more generally provide nice generation throughout a longer window of the day but true south is always best pound for pound. To answer your question in this particular setup the east/west config gives the best generation due to the space available for more panels. Thanks

      This install doesn’t feature a gateway. I assume you mean the PV input to a gateway? That’s some sized domestic array to be above 40A lol dare say most G99 circumstances would limit things before the capacity of an AIO/gateway. Still ways to accommodate bigger systems with a gateway using Lora and direct connection to the consumer unit. In terms of reading the panels, the gateway doesn’t work like that. It takes an AC input from a separate PV inverter. So you are half right and half wrong.

    A nice looking bit of kit, Mark. One or two things I noted during the install - design issues, not installer issues 🙂 - the AC power connector to the inverter doesn't give much room for the bend in the AC cable. Maybe the manufacturer should have a right-angled terminal connector as an option to make the electrician's life a wee bit easier! Secondly, the finished outdoor unit is very smart but I think I would be fitting some kind of mesh to close-off the gap at the back of the unit to prevent rodent damage to cables or wasp nests. The changeover contactor has to be break-before-make, of course, and so there is no guarantee that any equipment like routers or desktop PCs will not 'see' the grid drop out. I would always advise the use of UPS for these devices. The minimum delay before back-sync and automatic reconnection to the grid from island mode required by G99 is 20s (clause 10.3.4). I would say it should be a minimum of 60s if the installation is supplied from an overhead MV distribution network to allow any auto-reclosing equipment on the overhead feeder to have finished its sequence. Finally, I'm a bit wary of the use of a C125 incoming MCCB(?). Installations in rural areas supplied from pole-mounted transformers can have surprisingly low prospective fault currents, so a busbar fault in the gateway might not be cleared! Thanks for another very detailed and informative video.

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247 15 дней назад

      Thanks! The connector space is pretty roomy tbh behind the cover panel. Perhaps deceptive on the video. But as an installer more than happy with wiring room at the inverter and gateway. Enclosure around cables is always a battle outdoors. That said rodents and wasps will find a way past most barriers. Absolutely correct this is not UPS but the time is in the milli seconds. We have tried this on multiple similar solutions from other manufacturers. Most past the router and PC test tbf to them. Which is incredible really. In terms of the OCPD we need to remember we are protecting faults within the installation. Those are selected based on design considerations. It can not be expected of manufacturers to provide a one size fits all. In the circumstances you describe the breakers can if required be changed. That said much like main tails into a regular consumer unit the service fuse is always a final catch all in terms of short circuit in the main switchgear. Luckily here we have plenty of fault current. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Mark great use of fullface mask, the filter all I could see was Brown ring on the housing this is for organic vapours only. It won’t stop particles you will need a filter that has a white band, and I would always recommend P3. Keep up the great training

      These are P3 filters. All we ever use. I will show the mask in more detail as a few have asked about it. Full face fit with P3 💪

    Brings back memories of bending iron and copper pipes throughout a whole building. If only the pipe material was made like that really thin wiring stuff with the melty plastic covering that goes around all sorts of corners 👍

    If your customer now has a heat pump that heats the hot water there's no point in solar diversion into an immersion heater because the heat pump is three or four times more efficient - so the export tariff makes more sense for any surplus. Also because they have an EV I presume they are using a cheap rate overnight tariff - they could also time the heat pump to heat the hot water at the same time for even more savings.

      They do and that’s the beauty of choice. They have a robust setup to help with any energy tariff fluctuations in the years ahead. These are very experienced customers who have PV and solar divert for a long long time.

    Very neat install and very well explained. I was just onto Givenergy technical support and could not get a proper answer about the gateway and all-in-one. One person told me the all-in-one was a hybrid inverter plus battery in one box. Another person told me the gateway was an inverter but then changed the story to suggest that the PV DC connects through it to connect to the all-in-one so there was only one inverter in the all-in-one acting as a hybrid. All total rubbish as I suspected from the datasheets. (Poor one sheet items lacking in detail - as are the insulation manuals). What I wanted to know was what happened if you set the battery to self discharge to maximise export tariff - does the 6kW output first come from PV with battery help if needed or does it just discharge the battery by 6kW and the PV get wasted because there was only one inverter? It's obvious from your walk through that there are two inverters - an AC coupled battery and a PV DC-AC inverter, so you could get 6kW battery + PV kW export potentially, but I'm still unclear about if the software limits export to 6kW for DNO approval and takes PV first with battery addition if the sun goes down, or if battery "force discharge" ignores PV and lets PV go to waste. Can you clarify? Obviously, in addition, the inverter can have its own DC coupled battery as a hybrid - possibly the reason for the confusion. Also, did you fit an earth rod for island mode?

      @electrician247 16 дней назад

      We showed the earth rods in episode one of this job I think. There are two lol. The g100 limit has to be set in all the generators. They all have sight of export values and work within that. It depends on the mode of operation as to what takes priority. But default is solar first then battery. If the export limit is reached the solar gen is clipped away. Hope that helps. Mark

    Yes we use the SiGe here in Ireland, it is the best one out there on data specs but also it is 1K more expensive than the Sofar powerall which has less depth, great for utility rooms. nothing lasts outside where we are!
